Reconstruction of tunnels under the castle hill in the scope of adaptation to the needs of visitors with security of the castle hill and the resistance wall in Oświęcim

The aim of this project is to make tunnels under the castle hill accessible to visitors and to carry out security works on the castle hill itself. Each of these buildings is located in the Register of Monuments of Małopolska Voivodship under No A-279/78 on the basis of the decision of 27.02.1978. The project will consist of three basic stages: protect the castle hill from further erosion and slide, rebuild the tunnels with their arrangement allowing visitors to make it available. As part of the protection of the hill, work will be carried out in those areas of slopes, which show the greatest damage and endanger safety and descent of the monument. Water relations will be ordered by the extension of the rainwater drainage system. The hill will also be strengthened by the use of ground anchors and diamond mesh. Work in the tunnels will include recreation of entrance holes and communication with the system of public roads around the hill. The heating connection will also be reconstructed. The project also involves the construction of necessary installations. The main idea of the project is to create a new tourist attraction. The new arrangement, which will be built in reconstructed tunnels, is a historical route from the period of World War I, where visitors will actively acquire and consolidate their knowledge by solving various types of logical, skillful and substantive tasks available within interactive stations. Creative scenographic, sound, lighting and projection treatments will be applied, thanks to which tunnels can change into the interior of fortifications, trenches or armored trains. The elements of the route will include multimedia spectacles, interactive stations, quizzes and logical tasks. Exploration of the route will take place in groups of max. 12 people and last about 45 minutes. The full description of the project can be found in Annex 5 added to the explanatory letter (sign: BRM.041.5.2016.II).
