The subject of the project is the construction of the International Center for Ecological Education East-West as a model passive building. Thanks to the implementation of the project, it will be possible to disseminate energy-efficient passive construction. The project’s applicant is the City of Siemiatycze. The direct objective of the project is to improve the quality of life of residents of Siemiatycze City and to increase public awareness of the cost-effective and efficient use of energy through practical presentation of solutions used in the newly built passive public utility building. The project plans highly energy efficient solutions to significantly reduce the demand for electricity and heat. The project will use renewable energy sources and hybrid systems consisting of: Gas boiler room (low-emission gaseous fuel), heat pump (geothermal energy), photovoltaic cells (solar energy) Devices for recovery of heat from waste water (waste energy). The final beneficiaries of the project will be the local community of Siemiatycze. An additional effect will be to increase public awareness of the cost-effective and efficient use of energy in public buildings, which will serve as good examples for the inhabitants of Siemiatycz. Due to the demonstration nature of the building of the International Centre for Ecological Education East-West, visitors will be able to visit it, as well as meetings devoted to RES and energy efficient construction. The implementation of the project will allow the following indicators to be achieved: At product level: Estimated annual decrease in greenhouse gas emissions (tonnes of C02 equivalent) – 45.54 MgC02/year.
