THIS RESEARCH PROJECT IS AIMED AT DEVELOPING NEW ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS AND DEVICES BASED ON MICRO AND NANOTECHNOLOGIES TO BE USED IN NEW DIAGNOSTICS AND REGENERATIVE MEDICINE PRODUCTS. ALTHOUGH THE FIELDS OF APPLICATION ARE VERY DIFFERENT, THE PRODUCTS STUDIED ARE IN COMMON THE NEED TO INTERACT WITH BIOLOGICAL STRUCTURES AT THE MOLECULAR AND CELLULAR LEVELS. THE IDEA BEHIND THE PROJECT IS A DIMENSIONAL CONSIDERATION: MOLECULES FORMING THE BASE OF LIFE ARE SIZED IN THE ORDER OF NANOMETRES; NANOTECHNOLOGIES OPERATE AT THE SAME SCALE. THE ESSENTIAL BUILDING BRICKS, THE CELLS, HAVE THE SIZE OF THE MICROMETER ORDER IN THE CASE OF PROKARYOTIC CELLS AND A FEW MICROMETER IN THE CASE OF EUKARYOTIC CELLS: MICRO-MANUFACTURING TECHNIQUES FROM MICROELECTRONICS MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO CARRY OUT OBJECTS WITH DIMOREN DETAILS
