Invest in Dalarna 2015-2017

Increased global competition leads to EU/Sweden/Northern Middle Sweden/Dalarna losing attractiveness. The consequences of this are that the region’s business, small and medium-sized enterprises become more vulnerable, find key competencies and capital more difficult and become less competitive. This project aims to strengthen Dalarna’s competitiveness and attractiveness in the long term through proactive investment promotion. Having an inclusive approach to gender equality and integration and long-term sustainable thinking about our environment and resources is a prerequisite for success in this work. A small country like Sweden is dependent on foreign markets and cooperation to achieve success. A limited national market means that it is important for the country’s SMEs to enter the international market early on in order to have the opportunity to grow and develop into larger companies. Companies need primarily business contacts and cooperation with foreign companies that can sell their products and services on the foreign market. Without these contacts, the company itself needs to set up operations with its own staff etcetera in place on the new market. This is very costly and risky for SMEs to do. It is therefore almost exclusively suitable for large companies. SMEs therefore need advice and networks of established organisations to secure these partnerships. A positive effect of these partnerships, except that the companies can expand in the foreign markets, is that they also often gain access to expansion capital through the foreign company. Invest in Dalarna Agency is a separate department at Almi Gävledala and is separated from regular business areas. The project is well anchored, both with regional owners and in the company. Dialogues are conducted, network activities and follow-ups are conducted continuously with regional associations, municipalities, investing companies, etc. to develop the business. Nationally, the project is anchored at both Business Sweden and Almi through national projects and exchanges of experience. Project objectives EU/Sweden/Northern Central Sweden/Dalarna has strengthened its attractiveness towards the rest of the world, which has led to increased growth in the region’s small and medium-sized enterprises. Sub-target 1. Market research and profile sub-industries/segments where the region’s small and medium-sized enterprises are competitive in 2. Market business opportunities (existing and new) in the region towards a foreign market in 3. Create good long-term conditions for foreign expansion investments in the region
