Destination Capacity Building in Swedish Lapland

Overall objectives of the project: There are more small and medium-sized companies in the tourism industry in the region and these have expanded their market, increased their innovation power and strengthened their competitiveness from an international perspective. Project objectives: By participating in the project’s efforts, more companies within the hospitality industry have strengthened their capacity and competitiveness and more companies are active in the international market. Sub-targets: 1. More developed business models that have created strategic alliances between SMEs, conveyors, international partners and provide improved accessibility to the SME market in the region. 2. New digital interfaces that facilitate business relations with the market where Swedish Lapland takes position as a smart and digitally accessible destination. 3. Based on Swedish Lapland’s unique conditions, the subarctic nature and culture, SMF has developed new thematic products and travel reasons that have created the conditions for season extension and expanded business in new markets towards new target groups and business segments. 4. Increased awareness, attraction and visibility of SMEs’ products on the market and increased awareness of the destination as the world’s most accessible (sub)arctic destinations. The project’s activities are gathered under three development tracks with various sub-activities: 1. Destination Development – Accessibility – Networks and Strategic Alliances 2. Business and Product Development – Value – Local Product Development – New Business Ideas – Stimulate Export Entrepreneurship SMEs – Stimulate Product Development and Innovation 3. Market development – Thematic marketing plans within Leisure, MICE and Technical Visits – Tematic Communication – International Distributors The project’s expected main result is increased turnover of companies in the hospitality industry and more start-ups in the hospitality industry.
