Access to broadband via fibre is insufficient and unevenly distributed in Skåne and Blekinge. According to the Broadband Strategy, Skåne has a target that 95 % of all households and businesses in 2020 have an internet connection of at least 100 Mbps. To achieve these goals, more knowledge and methods are needed from the actors that enable broadband expansion so that they can seek investment funds for broadband expansion in the Rural Development Programme. The project’s activities are therefore focused on building up knowledge in municipalities and village teams so that they can initiate, implement and manage fiber expansion with greater force. The overall goal of the project, which is expected to be achieved 5-10 years after the project’s end, is that the knowledge-enhancing activities in the project have resulted in all companies, institutions and households connected to an operator-neutral fibre network. The goal of the project is that all municipalities in Skåne and Blekinge have come so far in their planning that extensive fiber expansion is underway or prepared. The project will carry out three sub-activities. The first involves different initiatives to support the municipalities in their broadband development, the goal is to collaborate with all municipalities in Skåne and Blekinge, what the content should look like depends on how far the municipalities have come in their broadband development. The second subactivity involves assisting byalag/fiber associations, residential areas in their fibre development initiatives and in the third subactivity specific efforts will be made to influence the interest in fibre connection.
