The purpose of the framework project environmental studies is to promote efficient and environmentally friendly energy use by small and medium-sized enterprises by providing opportunities to produce good decision support for investment in energy-efficient measures. The Swedish Energy Agency’s support will provide companies with opportunities to conduct environmental studies in different areas, such as energy management systems, measurement and visibility, promotion of technology development and better decision-making for various energy services. The goal of in-depth environmental studies is for SMEs to make more well-built and rational decisions for investment in organizational and technical energy efficiency measures. This will result in an increased energy efficiency rate. The investments themselves must take responsibility and account for participating companies themselves. With some form of energy management system in companies, work on energy efficiency will become more systematic and structured. If energy use is made visible and knowledge about new technology is deepened and tested, companies and other organisations can better invest in new technologies and optimise existing systems based on rational principles. When smaller companies do not have enough resources to manage energy efficiency efforts themselves, they must have sufficient knowledge to assess whether energy services are an alternative. Dissemination of results shall also lead to companies that have not directly participated in any in-depth energy studies can make decisions on similar investments. The support is aimed at small and medium-sized companies that conducted an energy survey. Energy mapping must meet the requirements of the energy survey support, which is part of the framework project Support for Energy Mapping within the National Regional Fund Programme.
