In order to speed up efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Uppsala Municipality wants to test new methods, work-rights and forms of cooperation aimed at small and medium-sized companies. In order to achieve climate change, it is important to include SMEs as they account for a significant part of climate-affecting emissions (see, for example, the Europe 2020 strategy and related flagship initiatives). Uppsala Climate Protocol is a collaborative platform aimed at larger companies and organisations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This platform for collaboration has been going on since 2010 and has been very successful. Therefore, the purpose of this project is to further develop the concept so it also includes small and medium-sized enterprises. Through collaboration in focus groups between SMEs, projects and activities are created with the intention of achieving energy efficiency and transition towards renewable energy among participating companies. The intention is also to develop new business ideas within the framework of the focus groups, reduce costs and thereby strengthen the competitiveness of participating companies. Method development, new tools, successful and innovative projects are then spread locally and regionally to a large number of small and medium-sized companies through established collaboration platforms in Eastern Sweden.
