There are a number of obstacles to innovation in terms of urban development. The City of Gothenburg wants to tackle this by establishing a structured way to work with research and innovation for sustainable urban development in Gothenburg. The goal is for the city to be strengthened as a test and demonstration arena, where business, the public sector, academia and civil society develop future solutions together. The structured approach includes the creation of an Innovation lock for urban development that will collect, evaluate and pilot further ideas within the city for test and demonstration, a financing model for the city’s FoI work in urban development, a display window to better visualise the ongoing development work and various forms of experience exchange with international focus.
