The overall goals and project objectives of the pre-study project will, based on stakeholders’ identified needs and expectations, develop a methodology and digital tool that creates opportunities for business-oriented innovation in small and medium-sized enterprises, using digitalisation. The project is expected to establish research collaboration on service innovation in support of development. The feasibility study will result in a decision basis and a project plan for continued investment in an implementation project. Description of the project’s working methods and activities This project develops collaborations in the interface between SMEs (SMF) – service logic – digitalisation. The feasibility study primarily works with a series of needs and idea seminars, followed by a simple prototype production. Needs and idea seminars with ICT* companies: A feasibility study is needed to conduct seminars with ICT companies and identify actors with a common interest in cooperation on solutions for SMEs. The actors will be provided with opportunities to map opportunities and barriers to operational collaboration with customers. Thereafter, creative idea seminars involving ICT companies’ expertise in digitalisation will be held. *ICT= Information and communication technology Needs and idea seminars with SMEs: The preliminary study will also conduct a first survey of expectations of SMEs, through a number of company visits and ideas and needs seminars, where appropriate industry, cluster and entrepreneur organisations also participate. The project collaborates with the project growth engine (the Foundation Inova) on needs mapping in micro companies (1-10 employees). Service innovation seminar: The preliminary study holds a number of meetings and a seminar aimed at finding forms of collaboration between Karlstad University Centre for Service Research (CTF) and Compare, and to make a preliminary assessment of how service logic can be applied in digital and physical processes/methods. Prototype production and test: The preliminary study is also needed to develop a first prototype of the digital arena, as well as a preliminary ¿crash test regarding legal, fiscal, procurement engineering and other legal aspects. Development of decision-making and project plan for continued development projects. The project’s expected results and benefits at the end of the project period The result of the feasibility study is a formal basis for decision and project plan ahead of continued investment in the implementation project. The basis for decision-making and its financing model will also be the basis for further funding, for example within the framework of the EU Regional Fund. Alternatively, further funding is sought from other financiers, as well as support/efforts from regional stakeholders and companies in the stakeholder platform. The important thing is that the results of the preliminary study/charging have provided a basis for deepening and further development of prototypes to complete tools and methodologies. It is also important that there is a clear commitment from key stakeholders. How regional business is to participate in the implementation The feasibility study involves a number of companies and stakeholders, primarily through ideas and needs seminars. ICT companies are involved in identifying actors with a common interest in cooperation on solutions for SMEs. The actors will be provided with opportunities to map opportunities and barriers to operational collaboration with customers. Thereafter, creative idea seminars involving ICT companies’ expertise in digitalisation will be held. The seminars involve stakeholders in service innovation research and research in computer science. The feasibility study will also conduct a first survey of expectations of SMEs, through a number of company visits and idea and need seminar, where appropriate industry and entrepreneur organisations also participate.
