The gaming industry is growing rapidly and Sweden is at the forefront of development. In Sweden, the number of employed persons in the industry is increasing rapidly, however, the industry is not spread across the country, but is currently concentrated in a few places in the country, Stockholm is the industry’s main seat. In 2014, efforts began to develop the gaming industry in northern Sweden and the number of active game developers went in the first year from zero to nearly thirty. In order for the development to continue in the same positive direction, the Innovation Game project wants to work to strengthen innovation processes in game development in northern Norrland to increase both breadth and cutting edge. The overall goal of the project is to stimulate the establishment of a sustainable innovative development environment for game development and game-related activities through collaboration and interaction between parties in northern Norrland’s innovation system. The project goal is to get new commercialised innovative services and products in a local, regional, national and international market, to run a test bed business with participating parties where companies in the traditional industry meet the gaming industry and to organise creative workshops focusing on culture and digital technology where a major focus is on gender equality and a broader labour market. The project’s activities consist of the creation of a test bed for game development to gather nutrition, innovation, education and research. The project will also create meeting places for creative workshop, work with market-oriented gaming innovation and promote collaboration between the traditional industry and the gaming industry. The project aims to strengthen the innovation process in game development in order to develop professional skills that can create opportunities for commercial success.
