The project is a collaborative project between Coompanion Västerbotten and Umeå University. The aim of the project is to, together with companies, incubators and universities in northern Sweden create a development environment for social innovation that enables more social innovation ideas to be highlighted by actors with different backgrounds and contribute to broadening the perspective of innovation and how innovations can arise and develop. With the project, the project owner wants to provide knowledge to the public, private and idea-based sectors to capture the opportunities and develop the innovation support system so it enables, facilitates and inspires social innovation. The project is divided into three sub-goals of knowledge development, networks and financing. The project will, among other things, work on developing new business models and ways of working that will facilitate the emergence of more social innovations on the market in collaboration between academia and industry. Arena social innovation is expected to have broadened the view of innovation and given more actors the prerequisite to develop their ideas in more sectors. Through the development of new business models and more financing opportunities for social innovation, more target groups will be attracted to develop their ideas and provide a broader diversity of financiers. An arena for social innovation will help to break the stereotypical innovation environment that today primarily targets traditional product and technology innovation. By strengthening knowledge, networks and forms of financing within the county, the number of social innovations will increase, which in the long run will lead to major social and business profits.
