Within the framework of the medical biobank in Umeå, blood samples have been collected and stored from more than 150,000 individuals since 1986, often with many, repeated sampling sessions. This project will create a new application and development of the biobank to a medical technology biobank, which will stimulate technological innovations. The aim is to actively participate in the research processes in a broad sense to promote the development of small and medium-sized companies in northern Norrland. The project’s milestones are: To help a new infrastructure prevent future infection threats and create customised applications. To develop a new environmentally friendly biocide that reduces microbial problems and antibiotic resistance by using a bacterial waste product from dairy. Evaluating new technology, its safety, robustness and usability in real environment, regarding telemedical heart consultations with remote-controlled robotic arm. Mapping and evaluating which chronic diseases and patient groups are best suited for care and follow-up in virtual care rooms. Developing high-quality and cost-effective forms of operations to meet the challenges posed by aging diseases.
