The overall goal of the project is to broaden the concept of innovation, broaden the business community and increase the competitiveness of the region and its companies. At the end of the project, an infrastructure for social innovation and social entrepreneurial initiatives will be built up. The infrastructure is based on challenges rather than industry and target group, thereby broadening the possibility of new innovations and the ability to include more people in innovation processes. The primary target group is small/middle-sized companies and social entrepreneurs. The project meets the demand of the business community identified in the feasibility study conducted by Coompanion in 2015-2016. The project also creates conditions for industry to develop its capacity for renewal and at the same time contribute to solutions to societal challenges. The project activities are mainly focused on raising knowledge about social innovation, creating conditions for collaboration between different sectors, creating a support system for social innovation and social entrepreneurial initiatives and raising awareness of social sustainability. To ensure that the project results live on after the project period, it is implemented and used actively in the project partners’ regular activities. Social innovation and social entrepreneurship are integrated into the regional innovation system and models and support functions are important resources in development work. The project contributes to greater acceptance of differences and innovation by providing knowledge and understanding of the importance of diversity, equality and non-discrimination for innovation. This eventually leads to gender equality in the county’s companies, equal opportunities for employment and increased integration in the labour market.
