A collaborative project between Region Östergötland, Linköping University and Biogas Öst to develop a strategy for faster conversion of the transport system in Östergötland. The overall goal is to reduce the need for transport, increased use of sustainably produced non-fossil fuels and an equal accessibility in the region. This should be done by developing methods and tools to improve Region Östergötland and Östergötland’s municipalities in their work to support the transition of the transport sector, partly by applying the four-stage principle and partly by promoting the transition to fossil-free fuels in the smartest possible way. The business community’s participation is through Biogas Öst and Biogas Research Center at Linköping University and their member companies as important entrances to dialogue. The project is expected to contribute to Region Östergötland’s ability to plan for intermodal travel, strategically select fuels and transport forms that benefit regional growth and cooperation with municipalities and transport sector actors. In the long term, the project will lead to carbon savings and the transition to fossil-independent transport modes and renewable fuels have gone faster than in comparable Swedish regions.
