Studies show that the growth of companies in Västernorrland is largely hampered by skills shortages. According to the project owner, there is great potential in the group of foreign born people who are not taken advantage of to cover the companies’ skills needs. The overall goal of the project is to create growth in the county’s business community by utilising the expertise of foreign-born people. This will be done through activities that focus on different areas where the competence of foreign-born people can contribute to increased competence and growth of the county’s companies. Examples of initiatives are activities aimed at supporting matching of the company’s needs with the expertise available in the county, entrepreneurship support to increase entrepreneurship among foreign-born, innovative meeting places for employers and foreign-born, and a developed and reinforced innovation support system for foreign-born people. The project will, for example, work on activities that aim to change habitual recruitment patterns and provide administrative support to small-sized companies in the recruitment process. The project is expected to result in 50 new recruitments to meet the needs of companies, create 36 new companies and contribute to 10 innovations. In addition, the project is expected to contribute to increased collaboration between the county’s organisations and establish methods in innovation support systems and entrepreneurship systems to meet foreign-born needs.
