The long-term goal of the project is to offer a renewable fuel alternative to heavy vehicles and vessels by enabling us to realise the biogas potential in the region and to liquid methane (LBG). In order to investigate whether there is a market for the gas, we are seeking support from the regional structural fund programme Småland and the islands for a feasibility study. The pilot study itself consists of five different sub-studies covering market surveys (customers, prices, volumes), logistics, technology, terminal suppliers and production potential. In addition to the feasibility study, proposals for an appropriate programme that finances demonstration/investment projects will be prepared. Apart from the market study, which will be procured, other studies will be conducted by the reference group and project manager. Four out of six members of the reference group represent the regional business community. Other private and public stakeholders will be engaged through the workshop held when the results of the sub-studies are completed and by being invited to the final seminar where the results of the feasibility study are presented. Our hope is that the feasibility study will determine that there are conditions for building a liquid gas terminal in the region so that we can proceed with a demonstration/investment project. In this way, the project can contribute to reaching a fossil-free transport sector in 2030 and may eventually become net producers of energy.
