Future forestry systems – biomass

The overall goal of Future Forestry Systems with regard to the entire biomass potential of forestry is to develop a new forest management system that will highlight the potential of klenstamsbiomas as a carbon neutral, climate-smart, sustainable and renewable energy source. The project goal is to develop, evaluate and validate a new klenstam biomass concept that includes new forest management routines and new technology. This will be done by developing and validating a new forest management system, designing and optimising a new harvesting system for weak stem biomass, as well as demonstrating, evaluating and validating the technology in varying terrain, climate and forest stocks. The project’s activities consist of formulating system requirements and requirements specifications, carrying out school-specific studies, developing and constructing concept test benches and demonstrating the concept. The initiative is expected to result in products for the transport of raw materials and pre-series units based on the results of the lab machines’ results can be developed, completed and taken into commercial operation. In the longer term, the concept is expected to generate 6 TWh of renewable bioenergy, which corresponds to approximately 1,000 new services in the region.
