Reduced climate impact from plastics in municipal operations

In the project Reduced climate impact from plastics, Eskilstuna, Norrköping, Linköping and Uppsala Municipality will work together to reduce climate impact from plastic. The overall and long-term goal of the project is to reduce the climate impact of fossil-based plastic products by minimising the use of these in municipalities in combination with replacing fossil plastic products with renewable and recycled plastic products. The project’s tools to create change in the climate impact of fossil plastics are public procurement. By developing procurement requirements and purchasing procedures for a selection of the plastic products used in municipal operations that primarily govern against other materials, such as wood, plastics produced from renewable or recycled raw materials, find the possibility to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from fossil plastics in Eastern Central Sweden by 55 % in the longer term. The business community will be affected by the fact that the municipalities will procure products based on specific climate and environmental requirements in the future. In order to create early collaboration on change in procurement requirements, the project will arrange a seminar aimed at the business community.
