Regional Alternative Technologyes for Traffic in X-län (RATT-X)

Overall objective The overall goal of the project is to create conditions for improved low-carbon technology to secure the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMF) operating within the value chains for renewable fuels and electricity for road transport in Gävleborg County. Project objectives The project’s goal is to develop and disseminate new knowledge about the value chains for renewable fuels and electricity for road transport with support in various forms of collaboration, and to contribute a general competence increase among the county’s small and medium-sized companies (SMF) active in the area. Milestone A: Establish and conduct three investigations – one for each value chain – of critical questions for BIOGAS, HVO (Hydrated Vegetable Oil – Biodiesel produced by hydrogen treatment of vegetable and animal fats and oils) and EL for road transport based on the county’s conditions and needs. Sub-goal B: Establish and conduct an investigation into issues relating to SYSTEM and the interaction between renewable fuels and electricity for road transport based on the various value chains. Sub-target C: Disseminate knowledge and increase the competence of the county’s small and medium-sized companies (SMF) with links to the value chains for renewable fuels and electricity for road transport. Expected results at project conclusions and effects in the long term Mainly they are about having developed and disseminated new knowledge about the value chains for renewable fuels and electricity for road transport with support in various forms of collaboration, and to have contributed with a general increase in competence at the county’s SMEs that are active in the field. In order to achieve this, the project must have established and conducted four investigations, which have activated and strengthened networks, increased competence and presented tools and decision-making documents that have begun to be used by SMEs and other stakeholders in order to increase their competitiveness within the framework for sustainable development of the transport system. By activating and strengthening regional networks within transport and fuel, a general increase in activity within these areas is expected. The addition that the project provides is expected to contribute to several actors increasing their efforts so that a critical mass is achieved and networks such as BiodriveMitt can play a more significant role in the future and generate new projects. The University of Gävle contributes during the project as a member and through a place on the board of BiodrivMitt. The continued activities that the project is expected to lead to at the companies are not primarily investigative, but are based on the results to develop their own operations through investments in different parts of the value chains, purchase of vehicles and transport services, participation in pilot projects, etc. The driving forces for this are to increase their competitiveness within the framework of sustainable development of the transport system and correspond well with the objectives of the Europe 2020 strategy: increased employment, as well as reduced climate impact and sustainable energy.
