Östgöta Challenge – Fossil-free transport in the public sector

The aim and goal of the project is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the transport sector in the municipalities of Östergötland and Region Östergötland. This will be achieved through efforts that lead to the use of energy-efficient, fossil-free vehicles and transport as well as increased use of renewable fuels. The foundation of the project comes from a previous feasibility study: ¿Östgöta Challenge Public Perspective¿which was financed by Region Östergötland and where the Energy Office was the project operator. The feasibility study identified the needs of the region, which were then translated into modules for this project. The project will work with seven modules where the participants choose the modules and modules that there is a need for in each municipality and Region Östergötland. Examples of activities from the modules are updating the policies and exchange of experiences between the participating actors. There is therefore a result linked to each module, for example, that the municipality is working out an exchange plan for the organisation’s vehicles and phasing out fossil fuels. The result of the project as a whole is to drive each municipality and Region Östergötland further on in their process towards more energy efficient, fossil-free vehicles and transport.
