Supporting the transition to a bio-based economy for the region is dependent on strong collaboration between all actors linked to the regional value chain based on forest biomass. This mainly includes increased innovation collaboration between SME, academia, government agencies and civil society. It is important to find the right use of the entire forest-based biomass, including the side streams that are currently mainly used for internal energy needs. The overall goal of the project is to jointly create the best long-term conditions in the region for the bio-based industry, which leads to the establishment of new and broader development of companies with good commercial opportunities and thus more jobs. The project goal is to create more and more forest bio-based materials and products, to further contribute to the bio-based economy and to have more clearly taken steps towards commercialisation for any of the tracks the project will work with. The project has 6 milestones and the activities that go towards these goals are collaboration within the value chain and with other value chains, business intelligence and business development and commercialisation. The expected result of the project is that the region’s actors interact even more closely to strengthen research, technological development and innovation, to have increased the competitiveness of SMEs and created growth. The strengthened companies and the new jobs that are expected to result from the project’s activities are expected to be of a type that is well suited to both genders and international in character, which opens up for employees with good knowledge of other cultures and languages. The transition to a bio-based economy will affect all parts of society and the project is expected to have a positive impact on the external environment in the long term, as it aims to contribute to the transition from a fossil-based to a bio-based economy.
