Gaming cluster collaboration in the Baltic Sea Region is an extension of the Innovation Game project. The main project aims to stimulate the establishment of a sustainable, innovative development environment for game development and gaming related activities in northern Norrland, to increase both breadth and cutting edge. Innovation Game works to support companies‘innovation processes and stimulate increased employment in the gaming industry and related industries through various tools such as Game Labs, Game Jams, excellence support, cutting edge technology support and by increasing companies’ networks in an international arena. The reason for the transnational component is to strengthen the main project through collaboration with gaming clusters in the Baltic Sea Region. The gaming industry is basically international from the start. The market is equally close or equally far away regardless of geography. Competition is also global. Collaboration is a well-recognised way of working in the gaming industry. With the whole world as a market and small direct competition between companies, the actors can work together to gather the right skills to the needs of each game idea, which enables a co-use of competence. The overall goal of the project is to further develop collaboration between gaming clusters in the Baltic Sea region and improve the conditions for the region’s companies in the industry. The project goal is to link the gaming clusters and thereby bring game developers closer to each other, deepen the common gaming market, strengthen common knowledge, increase the impact of ideas and stimulate new innovations. The project’s activities consist of creating joint meeting places and developing a Nordic prize in creative creation, as there is currently no industry-specific prize, while at the same time there is a need to highlight good examples and important individuals.
