Innovation Game 2.0 is a continuation of the project owner’s predecessor with similar names. This project is a cross-border collaboration project with Science City Skellefteå AB as project owner and Luleå Näringsliv AB, Piteå Science Park AB, Skellefteå Municipality and Boden utveckling AB as partners. The overall goal of the project is to contribute to a more diversified labour market and corporate structure in ÖN, by developing an industry that is attractive and inclusive. An industry that contributes to the development of the power of innovation in other industries, attracts entry and formation of companies and reduces the escape of competence. The project goal is to strengthen the gaming industry in the region. The project has also set a number of milestones such as increased visibility, increased gaming skills in the innovation and education system, more gaming innovations, more investments and more venues. These milestones should be reached with activities such as organising local meeting places such as Jams and creative boxes, organising and risking major events and business development for participating SMEs. The project owner has set up results and effects that they want to achieve with this project and it is, among other things, that there will be more SMEs and employees in the gaming industry, easier access to financing at an early stage for the companies, increased competence in the region. The project owner has also set goals for the horizontal criteria and one of the goals is to achieve increased diversity of their activities – which has then increased interest among women, foreign-born and disabled people in the gaming industry. Outreach work and activities with low thresholds have included a heterogeneous group in the development of new game concepts. This has resulted in games that take advantage of the needs of a broader customer base and thus become more competitive internationally. They also want the gaming industry’s expertise in areas such as creativity and renewal, digitalisation and rapid technological shifts as well as the link to gamification in other industries as a way for them to meet the demands and opportunities of globalisation, for the gaming industry to act as a development engine in the region.
