Summary description of the project The overall aim of the project is to increase the reaction capacity and maturity of the region’s IT companies, in order for them to have the ability to deliver solutions based on the ever-increasing technological development that is taking place. This is an important component in creating an attractive region with competitive industry, efficient public sector and co-creation and civil society. The project goals set by Umeå University are to build up a digital innovation hub to strengthen the region’s digitisation capacity, accelerate the number of digital innovation projects and increase the number of people employed in the IT sector. The project owner has also set a number of milestones that go towards digitisation and SMEs in the region but also against the horizontal criteria. The approach that the project owner will assume is to initially build a digital innovation hub. This work includes organising the node based on the functions that such a node should have to accommodate the technology expertise, competence centres and dissemination function needed to cope with the challenges posed by the digital transformation. The initial work also includes developing and coordinating IT companies, as well as capturing and linking existing and future testing and lab environments at the junction. The second part of the project will be coordinated during the activities Attraction, Navigation, Acceleration and Transformation, where the region’s IT companies and needs owners actively participate. At each loop, new technology trends will also be introduced, which can then serve as a basis for deliveries in the sub-activities, i.e. external analysis, future scenarios, project activities, testing and implementation. The project will contribute to a variety of results and effects such as effective knowledge and technology transfer among IT companies, increased digitisation capacity and more participating companies in FOI projects. For academia, there is expected to be an established digital innovation hub with well-functioning collaboration functions. The project will also contribute to, among other things, the IT companies having a clear systematic approach to attracting and maintaining female IT employees, has established a systematised way of attracting and recruiting employees who are born abroad and have increased insight into how Agenda 2030 can contribute to growth.
