Kalmar C 2.0 The main track

The function and accessibility of Kalmar Central Station is a crucial factor for both local and regional business and industry’s opportunities to grow and develop. For example, being able to travel between Kalmar, Karlskrona and Växjö is an important step in improving business skills. A modern station environment located in the right place with regard to future urban development and mobility is therefore central in the pursuit of a common labour market region in southeast Sweden. A feasibility study has shown two modes as adequate alternatives for the location of a future station. This announced project intends to investigate in more detail the conditions for both situations. The studies to be carried out include analysis of future travel patterns, the design of travel centres and station environments as well as functional investigations for track areas. In addition, proposals are drawn up on how the barrier effect of the railway can be reduced or eliminated in the event that the decision is to retain and develop the existing station area. The project will result in a broad and thorough basis for decision on the choice of location for the future Kalmar Central Station. A central station can be seen in the rear view mirror expected to be a central point for future urban development. In the long run, this means that the results from the project will have effects that will last for a very long time to come.
