The food industry is important and growing in Kalmar County. The county-wide work to develop this industry is based on the county’s food strategy. Several activities are already underway. We now want to supplement with an activity aimed at the individual, as a visitor and customer of the county’s companies. This is to increase interest and the market for food from Kalmar County, as well as to strengthen the industry’s attractiveness. According to the strategy, for example, we need to try new ways in terms of marketing, customer contact and hosting, increase knowledge of sustainable food production and enable the end customer to make sustainable choices and increase pride in the county’s food and food production. The house of food could contribute to this. The house of food should be an interesting destination for locals as well as tourists and other visitors. Products from the region’s food companies should be able to be marketed, tasted and put into a context. This is to strengthen the region’s businesses, from soil to table. The food house will also increase the individual’s knowledge of today’s food production and put regional and Swedish food in a global context. This contributes to a more conscious and sustainable consumption and hopefully increases interest in Swedish food, for the benefit of the region’s companies in terms of market share as well as competence supply. The feasibility study will investigate the prerequisites for developing a concept around Matens hus in Kalmar County, i.e. produce proposals for goals, target groups, focus, activities, implementation and financing. The following activities are included in the feasibility study: Project management, knowledge acquisition, LFA workshop, study trip, dialogue and concept development, reporting, external communication and dissemination of results. In the event that the preliminary study shows good opportunities for implementation, the main stakeholders will proceed with an implementation project.
