Kalmar Municipality is planning an extensive expansion of the northern parts of the city within the next three to five years. Exploitation will require sustainable and functional solutions in terms of the movement of people, services and goods. A public transport solution that provides short travel times and has priority in breakpoints can be part of such a solution. The North Road is the main road for travellers coming from or heading north from Kalmar city. The preliminary study will investigate the possibility of establishing bus traffic based on the BRT concept (Train on rubber wheels) along the North Road. In a positive outcome, the intention is to proceed with an implementation project. To strengthen the knowledge base for this type of public transport both in the municipality and the region, experiences will be taken from other parts of the country that have progressed further in the same process.
