Replacement fibre Kokkavaara-Silkimuotka

The aim of the project is to build local networks in sparsely populated parts of Kiruna municipality where market conditions for the expansion of broadband infrastructure are lacking. The project will give the municipality the opportunity to build a local network along the priority route during the project period. The overall goal of the project is to increase the number of small and medium-sized companies to be able to access broadband connection of at least 100 Mbit/s. After the project period, Kiruna Municipality will own and be responsible for investments in the broadband network. In addition, more companies and households in sparsely populated areas of Gällivare municipality will be given the opportunity to connect to a faster broadband network that is ultimately necessary for sustainable regional growth. Vattenfall plans to phase out an existing line between Kokkavaara and Silkimuotka. The municipality must replace existing air fibre in Vattenfall’s poles and place replacement fibres in the ground so that the eastern parts of the municipality do not lose existing broadband connection.
