Regional development of route tourism in Dalarna (RualiD) part 2

Sweden’s nature is an increasingly important reason for travel. Never before has the interest to visit Swedish nature been greater than now. Changing holiday behaviour and interest from foreign visitors to take part in Swedish nature has increased in recent years. Now this interest has increased considerably as a result of the prevailing coronapandemic. In Visit Sweden’s press information from 29/6-2020 it is stated that Sweden is in second place only the kind of Norway, when potential visitors spontaneously rank countries that offer sustainable nature experiences. This is shown by a survey of the target group commissioned by Visit Sweden in the visitor markets Germany, France, the UK and the USA. However, accessibility to nature is dependent on a system of sustainable quality-assured trails for hiking and cycling. The Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth’s final report, Sustainable product development with a focus on nature and cultural tourism, points out that: “Ledtourism is a long-term interaction between companies and public actors. The companies’ offerings are an important part of the experience while the public is responsible for maintaining the infrastructure itself and being accessible, quality assured and maintained”. It points to the need for a long-term perspective in operation and management of the trails in order to make the companies’ work with the development of experiences and products. The Final Report even says: “Product development should not be started before the trail is long-term secured”. In order for companies to be able to develop nature and cultural-based products, a functioning public sector system is largely about maintaining a touristic infrastructure as a base. Trails for hiking and cycling are an investment for sustainable tourism, local attractiveness and rural development. This project will support the regional efforts to develop sustainable quality-assured hiking trails that can be offered to national and international tourists by: — Drive and develop the regional network Hikinglyftet Dalarna. — Support and drive continued digitalisation of the quality-assured joints. — Educate the management and management of quality-assured and sustainable leads. — Describe the regional link to the national work currently underway in the project National Framework for Hiking Trails. — Kompetenshöja Dalarnas besöksbranschensföretag genom hostskapscertifiering Hikers & Bikers Welcome. — Develop master plans for cycling areas within Biking Dalarna to create consensus and a development plan for both private and public actors.
