Reboot: Innovation in crisis SMEs in the hospitality industry

The current pandemic has had significant consequences for small and medium-sized companies in the hospitality industry. Major cities are particularly affected and several companies are expected to go bankrupt. The project aims to take advantage of the expertise and networks that exist among companies affected by financial difficulties by supporting their adaptation to the new business environment that the pandemic entails and to support the start of new sustainable and competitive operations for the future. The project aims to implement innovation programmes that offer small and medium-sized companies in the hospitality industry the opportunity to collaborate with qualified experts to develop new business models, products and services for expansion in new markets, national as well as international. The goal is to: — Strengthening the ability to reboot for small and medium-sized enterprises affected by economic difficulties in connection with the pandemic – Long-term strengthening of small and medium-sized tourism companies’ innovation and competitiveness – Strengthening the ability to internationalisation and expansion in new markets – Create increased resilience in the overall tourism industry, after Covid-19 – Create better insight into the supply of skills for the tourism industry of the future. The project is based on collaboration between Gothenburg & Co and the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg. Gothenburg & Co is a destination company owned by the City of Gothenburg with the mission to lead and drive the development of Gothenburg as a sustainable destination so that all who live and work here benefit from a growing tourism industry. Gothenburg & Co’s activities span the entire Gothenburg region, i.e. the neighbouring municipalities that work together through GR. UsBe is the main applicant for the project and contributes with ongoing research on crisis management, growth and internationalisation in SMEs, tourism, events, retail, digitalisation and business systems. The programme includes researchers from the Centre for Tourism, Matix, the Centre for International Business Studies, the Center for Retail and Bitlab.
