Due to the prevailing pandemic, the meeting industry and the tourism industry on Gotland are in a major and difficult crisis. International and national travel will be limited in the future and it will take time before companies and organisations have the economic opportunity to undertake trips or change their travel policies and travel restrictions. Both internationally and nationally, there will be higher demands on digitalisation of visits, meetings and conferences from an economic, social and environmental perspective. Gotlands besöksnäring AB sees a great need to develop the meeting industry on the island and increase the capacity of small and medium-sized companies to manage these new market conditions. The project aims to strengthen expertise in hybrid meetings and provide SMEs with business development that supports sustainable digital transformation throughout the industry. Gotland companies in the MICE industry (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) need to gain knowledge about digital hybrid solutions and how they can turn their offering/product into being able to be used, sold and experienced digitally. Business development intends to increase knowledge in three areas: Digital transformation of meetings, Business models, Packaging & Marketing of digital products. A digital meeting that takes place from Gotland must be perceived as Gotlandic, otherwise it can be ordered from anywhere in the world. If Gotland does not have digital hybrid solutions that meet international standards, meeting participants can choose another destination, leading to lost business opportunities. During the project, joint products that create a Gotland setting for digital hybrid meetings will be developed. The results that the project creates will benefit the whole industry and be available to all companies on Gotland that want to conduct hybrid meetings.
