Both Jämtland-Härjedalen and Västernorrland are characterised by their localisation of a comparatively small labour market in the industrial sector. This is characterised by a deteriorating competitiveness as a result of slower capital formation, poorer conditions for capital supply, tangible difficulties in financing investments and significant challenges related to skills supply. In view of these challenges, the project aims to mobilise the manufacturing companies in the regions to co-act collectively and create conditions similar to those in larger labour markets. SIMMIT builds on experiences from previous projects such as SIM JH, SMART Industri 2.0 and a feasibility study on the conditions for an industrial collaboration platform in Västernorrland. The project is carried out as a collaborative project between Region Jämtland-Härjedalen’s partner organisation IUC Z-GROUP, a number of business groups in Västernorrland and individual companies. The work aims to develop the industry in the middle region, as well as to meet the companies‘planning skills and planning efforts that prepare investment decisions so that companies’ long-term competitiveness can be improved. The goal is that the project will lead to the establishment of an industrial collaboration platform in Region Västernorrland and to expand the existing industrial collaboration platform in Region Jämtland-Härjedalen to include more industries. The project will also contribute to companies strengthening their knowledge of their development areas and strategic development support. SIMMIT will also contribute to strengthening cooperation between the education sector and companies. In the long term, the project will lead to individual companies bringing forward actions that are crucial for the company’s competitiveness and long-term survival. SIMMIT also includes analysis, conclusions and adaptations of the efforts that the company is involved in. SIMMIT will also lead to manufacturing companies working in more collaboration and clusters, taking an extended part of national initiatives initiated by the public sector and becoming a more influential actor in the industry. The increased cooperation between the companies that SIMMITT contributes to will increase both companies and the industry’s presence in a larger market and new markets (including internationalisation).
