Game on Mid Sweden

The project aims to create conditions for new jobs, new companies, increased competence through, among other things, a skills development plan for the gaming industry as well as an industry-wide skills strategy and also strengthen the conditions for international business. Challenges in the computer game industry in the form of the industry not being distinctive in size, which means that regionally you fail to take part in an expanding global growth industry. The computer game industry is a growing growth industry in a global market and is a significant export industry for Sweden that increases its turnover, creates jobs and attracts young people. This makes the industry interesting from a regional perspective as it creates growth and increased attractiveness for the region. The project builds on a feasibility study conducted in spring 2020, where two reports identified that the industry lacks visibility and profile and has a need to strengthen itself in business development and strategy to increase its national and international business. Identified threats are also that there is a lack of educational efforts and that collaboration with other industries does not occur naturally and needs to be worked with, as well as lack of financing (of gaming companies) in later phases. In the long term, the project creates a sustainable basis for the development and growth of the gaming industry in Västernorrland. Through an established cluster, it will be easier for companies to start and get started with activities in the county, through access to industry colleagues, a network that, for example, offers mentor programmes and a stable structure that can provide support, advice and offer collaboration.
