Ships’ ballast water is an important vector for transmitting foreign, invasive alien and toxic species and pathogens through natural barriers. Their damage is reflected in ecosystems disorders and/or a negative impact on human health and/or economics (tourism, fisheries and mariculture). Climate change will boost the success of the adaptation of the introduced organisms, which will increase the scale of their impact. The aim of the project is the development of port control and defence systems against potential introduction of organisms which will reduce the vulnerability of coastal areas to climate change. The public, state and private institutions in the maritime domain, environment and health protection, educational institutions and the public will be informed about this problem and the results of the project.
