The general objective of the project is to improve the accessibility and mobility of the population, goods and services, in order to stimulate sustainable economic development, by modernising 167,933 km of county roads in Iași and Suceava counties close to TEN-T and connecting 22 urban and rural administrative-territorial units to the TEN-T network. Thus, by implementing the project "North-East Region – Strategic Road Axis 1: Iasi – Suceava", will achieve the results pursued by promoting the investments foreseen under Priority Axis 6: “Improving road infrastructure of regional importance”, Investment Priority 6.1. “Boosting regional mobility by connecting secondary and tertiary nodes to TEN-T infrastructure, including multimodal nodes”. The implementation of the project will reduce freight and passenger transport costs, promote access to regional markets and increase traffic safety. The project fits into the overall strategic concept established for ROP 2014-2020 on improving road infrastructure as a determining factor for increasing economic competitiveness and sustainable development of the North-East region, contributing to increasing the quality of life of local and regional communities by developing infrastructural conditions in relation to the specific conditions of the area. The project was elaborated on the correlation with the provisions of the specific strategic documents at national, regional and county level, of which the most relevant is the North-East Regional Development Plan 2014-2020. As evidenced by the specific objectives identified above, the project "North-East Region – Strategic Road Axis 1: Iași – Suceava" contributes directly to the general objective of Priority Axis 6 of ROP 2014-2020 and ensures the achievement of a homogeneous road sector, in the sense of adapting the infrastructure to the increasing traffic, ensuring a high level of road traffic safety.
