Improving mobility in Constanta, between CFR Train Station and Mamaia resort

The general objective of the project is to improve urban mobility in the municipality of Constanta, by resystematising the transport infrastructure corresponding to the road arteries: BD. 1 December 1918 and Bd. Alexandru Lapusneanu, in order to encourage the use of more environmentally friendly modes of transport, by increasing the attractiveness and accessibility of public transport, cycling and pedestrians, as well as adapting to the needs of persons with disabilities and reduced mobility. The main aim will be to reduce GHG emissions and promote sustainable urban mobility by investing in urban public transport infrastructure and cycling and pedestrian-specific infrastructure in order to ensure the free and safe movement of people, while protecting the environment, crucial to the quality of life of the citizens of the Municipality of Constanta. Thus, the systematisation of the two roads will be done in such a way as to ensure the following: refurbishment of the street tram, creation of taxiways dedicated to public transport means, creation of bicycle paths, modernisation of public transport stations, improvement of pedestrian facilities (walking, passageway including for disabled persons), making markings and indicators, preparing the infrastructure for the prioritisation system of public transport, introducing a modern lighting system for the pavement area, pedestrian areas and bicycle tracks, installation of urban furniture. It will also aim to make the use of cars a less attractive option in terms of economic and journey times compared to the use of public transport/non-motorised modes, thereby creating the conditions for reducing car numbers and reducing CO2-equivalent emissions and meeting specific objective 4.1 of the Investment Priority 4e.
