The general objective of the project is to promote sustainable urban mobility through urban regeneration of the central area through a series of measures that will lead to increased accessibility and pedestrian mobility in the central area of the municipality. Thus, the aim is to increase the modal share of pedestrian and cycling journeys, by transforming the Stefan cel Mare Street segment under study into a modern pedestrian esplanade and the modernisation of pedestrian infrastructure (trotuaries and shared-space areas) on adjacent streets, but also by creating dedicated lanes for public transport and bicycle paths on Bd. Ferdinand and Str. Mircea the Elder. At the same time, it is intended to make the use of cars in the central area of the municipality less attractive by restricting their access to the project’s intervention area, thus creating the conditions for increasing the modal share of pedestrian and cycling and reducing CO2 equivalent emissions. Increasing the attractiveness of the pedestrian area and transforming it into a major area of local interest, reiterating an identity route, which was no further than 10 years ago was sprinkled by shops, bank offices, notary offices, restaurants and cafes, and reflects a thriving commercial life, will bring new valentines to the socio-cultural and touristic landscape of Constanta Municipality and will contribute to improving the quality of the environment and increasing the quality of life of the inhabitants.
