Energy efficiency and extension of historical area lighting – Sinaia

The general objective of the project is to: Increase energy efficiency in Sinaia City by reducing energy consumption in public lighting and intelligent energy management. Energy efficiency is the point of maximum interest in the EU’s strategy towards a resource-efficient economy and the achievement of the 2020 strategy. The main objective of the EU 2020 Strategy in the energy efficiency effort is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20 % compared to 1990, to obtain primary energy in a proportion of 20 % from renewable energy sources and to achieve primary energy savings of 20 % compared to the forecast of 2007 for 2020. Efficient lighting is one of the most important solutions in terms of implementing measures to increase energy efficiency. Romania has already undertaken to comply with the European rules in this field by adopting Law 121/2014 which transposes into the Romanian legislation Directive EU 27/2012 of the European Parliament. In this context, energy efficiency projects in terms of lighting represent a solution not only for compliance with community requirements, but also for cost efficiency. In order to ensure a clean and ecological city, a pleasant and healthy environment, increasing energy efficiency, Sinaia city administration aims to realise this investment project aimed at modernising and streamlining public lighting. By achieving the overall objective, the project contributes to the specific objective of the investment priority 3.1 Supporting energy efficiency, smart energy management and the use of renewable energy in public infrastructure, including public buildings, and housing. We would like to mention that the proposed project falls within the SINAIA 2016-2020 DURABLE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY, whose vision consists of transforming Sinaia into a quality tourist destination based on its natural and cultural heritage that meets the standards of the European Union and achieving a sustainable development, from an environmental point of view, of the tourism sector at a rate of development superior to other tourist destinations in Romania. At the same time, the proposed project is in line with the Energy Efficiency Improvement Program of the Sinaia ATU that addresses the reduction of CO2 emissions and energy efficiency and includes measures to reduce energy consumption in public lighting. The overall objective of the project will be achieved by achieving the specific objectives proposed.
