Arad has an intense motorisation rate of 450 vehicles/1000 inhabitants, the use of personal cars for travelling on urban roads greatly contributing to the increase of carbon dioxide emissions. The project aims to reduce the carbon emissions resulting from urban transport in Arad. This goal will achieve the transfer of a part of the modal share of individual car transport to more environmentally friendly modes of transport, namely public transport and cycling. One of the sources of carbon dioxide emissions is increasingly crowded urban transport. The majority of citizens’ movements on the territory of the city are made by individual means of transport (about 42 %) which leads to an increase in the number of cars circulating in order to carry a small number of people. If some of these users were to use public transport, it would reduce the number of cars, and by implication the CO2 emissions caused by them. The general objective of the project is to reduce transport by individual cars in Arad Municipality In order to determine some of the users of individual cars to use public transport or other environmentally friendly forms of transport (bicycle), it is necessary to create more attractive conditions for these modes of transport. The project aims to improve public transport by bus between UTA area and Aradul Nou district, on a new route, with new electric buses and at the same time facilitating cycling. Through the investments proposed by the project, it will be ensured that the quality of public transport services with buses is increased by solving the main problems identified regarding this service, namely the comfort offered by the public transport means and the safety of passengers, as well as the realisation of efficient routes for the means of public transport. The redesign of the bus route on the project area will lead to the improvement of the conditions for the movement of buses, by modernising the road infrastructure and building a new bridge over Mures, by modernising the bus stations and creating new stations, by prioritising the movement of buses through an intelligent adaptive traffic system, as well as by making fast power stations for electric buses at the ends of the proposed route. The proposed project is a complex project that proposes several solutions for reducing CO2 emissions. Thus, in addition to increasing the attractiveness of public transport with buses, it will help to facilitate cycling by completing the existing bicycle tracks in the area of the new road infrastructure achieved through the project and by implementing a bicycle rental system. The project will thus contribute to the achievement of the specific objective 4.1 of the priority of learning
