Acquisition of electric rolling stock, 4 double trams large capacity joint and 6 tram cars medium capacity

Reducing carbon emissions from transport in Arad through the purchase of new rolling stock (tram), which will lead to the development of an attractive and efficient public passenger transport system by tramway, thus facilitating the sustainable transfer of part of the modal share of private passenger transport to public transport. The purchase of new rolling stock will reduce energy consumption and improve the quality of public transport services in the municipality, increasing the attractiveness of public transport for motor vehicle users and thus reducing carbon emissions and noise pollution, ultimately improving the environment and improving the well-being of the inhabitants. The acquisition of new, modern trams will increase the interest in tram transport and the efficiency of public passenger transport, which will lead to the transfer of private car journeys to clean modes, thus creating the conditions for reducing CO2-equivalent emissions from transport. The Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Arad Municipality (PMUD) foresees in the selected scenario investments related to the renewal of the material park of Arad Municipality through both the acquisition of new trams and the modernisation of 20 trams. The rolling stock renewal projects are also included in the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy of Arad. They were also selected and prioritised by the Arad Urban Authority in the FESI DJ, thus demonstrating their importance for the development of sustainable urban mobility of Arad. This investment has been identified in the SUMP as necessary to improve the quality and performance of the tramway fleet, as currently, with the exception of 6 trams purchased in 2014-2015, vehicles used to operate this mode are over 30 years old. As foreseen by the SUMP, continuing the process of upgrading the rolling stock fleet will reduce the environmental impact (noise, energy consumption). At the same time, the modernisation of the tram fleet will increase the comfort and safety that passengers will feel in public transport, which will help to improve the attractiveness of this mode of transport. The trams to be purchased will be new, modern design and will ensure easy access for persons with reduced mobility (moving in wheelchairs, elderly people, visually impaired and/or hearing people, persons carrying baby carriages, etc.). The renewal of the circulating park will allow the operation to be extended in line with proposal 2.10 Redesigning the tramway traffic programme to serve the demand for transport attracted/generated by the transport pole – West Industrial Park.
