Renewal of the tram fleet – Stage II

The overall objective of the project is to increase passenger comfort, average travel speed and tram accessibility, so that public transport becomes more attractive, encouraging the abandonment of private cars, creating the conditions for reducing CO2-equivalent emissions from transport. The purpose of the investment is to bring public transport to modern, European standards, in the interests of citizens, increasing the performance of the urban transport service, giving the city a modern look that is conducive to reliable, clean public transport. The degradation of transport conditions leads to the abandonment of public transport by tram by part of citizens. Through the implementation of the investment project “Renewal of the tram fleet”, the aim is to reduce operating, maintenance and repair costs, to increase average traffic speeds, thus reducing energy consumption, duration and cost of passenger transport. The implementation of this project will generate the following benefits: — fluidisation of traffic; improving road safety by reducing the risk and number of accidents; — improving the degree of comfort and civilisation; improvement of environmental parameters affected by public transport through noise, vibrations, emissions (CO2, SOx, SOx); — the general improvement of urban traffic in Timisoara. Tram wagons are intended for public passenger transport in Timisoara, falling under the technical and functional conditions given (infrastructure, general circulation), respectively adapting the mandatory requirements of these specifications. The reduction of carbon emissions from transport in Timisoara through the renewal of the tram fleet will lead to the promotion and improvement of public passenger transport and, implicitly, to encourage and facilitate the transfer to them from individual car transport. By renewing trams in the public transport fleet of Timisoara, the interest in tram transport and the efficiency of public passenger transport will increase, which will lead to the transfer of private car journeys to clean modes, thus creating the conditions for reducing CO2 equivalent emissions from transport. The Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan for Timisoara Growth Pole (PMUD) provides investments related to the renewal of the tram fleet of Timisoara Municipality both through the acquisition of new trams and the modernisation of trams. The rolling stock renewal projects are also included in the Integrated Development Strategy of the Timisoara Growth Pole. They were also selected and prioritised by the Urban Authority of Timisoara in the FESI DJ of Timisoara, thus demonstrating their importance for the development of sustainable urban mobility of the city.
