The overall objective of the project is to: “Improving access to health services for the population by modernising the emergency hospital infrastructure to ensure increased quality of life and sustainability of the emergency healthcare system at regional level”. The UPU’s mission is to ensure quality and efficiency in emergency medical services, to provide emergency medical care by a team of professionals who respect both ethical values and patients’ rights. The Emergency Reception Unit or UPU operates in the structure of Timisoara County Emergency Clinical Hospital since August 1, 1999. It was created on the basis of a new concept of an integrated approach to medical and surgical emergencies by a staff specially trained for this purpose, namely, by specialised doctors and nurses specialised in emergency medicine, the County Emergency Clinic Hospital Timisoara being among the 8 pilot centers in the country that were selected for the improvement program of the Regional Emergency Medical Care System.
