General objective of the project to improve alternative urban mobility in Sibiu. The project will also contribute to reducing GHG emissions and promoting sustainable urban mobility by increasing the attractiveness and accessibility of safe non-motorised movements. The project directly contributes to the achievement of the specific objective 4.1 of the investment priority 4e of ROP 2014-2020 by increasing the modal share of cycling movements at the level of the intervention area, this mode of clean travel becoming an attractive option and a complementary alternative to public transport by promoting intermodality. The proposed route also ensures the connection of the proposed sections with the existing infrastructure and the designed infrastructure of cycle paths, as shown in the technical and economic documentation of the project. Alternative, non-motorised mobility solutions are prerequisites for achieving a sustainable transport system with low CO2 emissions. Improving the performance in the field of urban mobility by creating routes for connecting different areas of the municipality, accessibility, modernisation and expansion of the network of bicycle tracks are priority measures of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan. The sections that will be the subject of this project will contribute in an integrated manner to stimulating non-motorised public transport solutions. The newly created route will facilitate a traffic flow of cyclists considerably, representing an ecological and healthy transport alternative for citizens and tourists and will also ensure the valorisation of the Cibin River by transforming it into an urban landmark of the city.
