General objective of the project: Reconversion and refunctionalisation of a degraded, vacant and unused land within the municipality, and restore it to the local community, thus supporting the improvement of the urban environment, revitalisation and regeneration of the reconversion area and, last but not least, reducing air pollution. How the project contributes to the achievement of the specific objective of the Programme: Through the activities proposed by the project, the functional reconversion and re-use of a degraded, vacant and unused land, located in the vicinity of highly urbanised neighbourhoods, and restoring it to the use of the local community will be achieved. The land with a total area of 62,000 sqm thus reused will be integrated as a newly created green area into the local register of green spaces. At present, the land subject to the interventions proposed by the project is classified as degraded land with the possibility of being rehabilitated as green spaces – Fisa nr. 109 from the Local Register of Green Spaces in Sibiu Municipality, approved by HCL no.445/2017 (as amended by HCL 397/2018). The project complies with the specific conditions for accessing funds under the call for projects nr.POR/2017/4/4.2/1, Priority Axis 4 – Supporting sustainable urban development in Investment Priority 4.2, and contributes to achieving the specific objective of this priority, by aiming at functional reconversion and reuse of a degraded, vacant and unused land within the city and its transformation into green park area with leisure areas and leisure facilities for the local community. Through an integrated approach both territorial and functional and operational with the other investment priorities identified and projects proposed in the Integrated Sustainable Urban Development Strategy of Sibiu, this project will contribute significantly to the reduction of CO2 emissions at the level of the municipality, by increasing the area of green spaces (CO2 absorption, fine dust retention, oxygen release into the atmosphere), while also supporting the improvement of the quality of life in the urban environment and the revitalisation of the urban environment.
