The overall objective of the project is to reduce CO2-equivalent emissions from motorised road transport by 192 tonnes/year. By purchasing the 12 new trams that will run on line 25, the aim is to increase the attractiveness and improve the efficiency of public passenger transport, frequency and journey times, accessibility and implicit transfer to it from private transport by car. The objective of the project is in line with the measures set out in the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan 2016-2030 drawn up for the Bucharest-Ilfov region, a strategic document approved in March 2017 by the General Council of the Municipality of Bucharest. The plan aims to create an efficient, integrated, sustainable and safe transport system designed to promote socially inclusive economic and territorial development and to ensure a high quality of life, with the following objectives: I. ACCESIBILITY – Ensures that all citizens are offered transport options that facilitate their access to essential destinations and services; I-I. Safety AND SECURITY – Improving safety and security in circulation; III. Environment – Reduction of air pollution and noise, greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption; IV. Economic Efficiency – Improving the efficiency and economic effectiveness of passenger and freight transport; V. QALITY OF THE URBAN MEDIUM – Helps to increase the attractiveness and quality of the urban environment and urban design for the benefit of citizens, the economy and society as a whole. It also aims to achieve the objectives of Directive 2008/50/EC on environmental protection, namely air quality assurance – a priority objective of the Integrated Air Quality Plan (PICA) developed by the Bucharest City Hall.
