The object of the project is the renovation of the building complex of the former Pedopolis of Kavala, in order to save energy and restore the water supply and sanitation and sanitation networks of all buildings. The Child Protection structure of Kavala (formerly the Pedopolis of Kavala) has been owned by the Social Welfare Centre of the Region of Eastern Macedonia – Thrace since October 2013. The structure operates on a 24-hour basis and is classified as a closed-care unit for children in distress. The implementation of the project is of paramount importance, as it ensures the upgrading of the quality of life of the hosted children, who come from a particularly complex or even non-existent family environment. The existing infrastructure as well as its equipment are severely damaged, which came from the long and continuous use. The hospitality needs are constantly increasing, but the need to upgrade the building infrastructure and equipment so as to meet the modern requirements of hospitality and protection of children is increasing. The aim of the project is to create a hospitality environment that will provide children with modern accommodation, feeding and entertainment. This is achieved by renovating the buildings of Pedopolis, aiming at energy saving as well as the restoration of water supply, sanitation and sanitation networks of all buildings, the supply of equipment, the shaping of outdoor spaces where upgraded entertainment services will be offered to children. Work is also planned to facilitate people with disabilities in order to have the possibility of unhindered access – visit to the Children’s Town of Kavala.
