The katholikon of the Monastery of Saints Fanenton and the Chapel of Agios Nikolaos constitute a monumental landmark set for the island of Kefalonia. They are located in the archaeological site of the acropolis of ancient Sami and fall under the established protection zone A. Since the 13rd century there are testimonies of the existence of the Monastery. The katholikon of the monastery in its present form was built in 1633 according to a dedicatory inscription and belongs to the type of one-aisle basilica. On the east side protrudes the semicircular socket of the sanctuary which has the peculiar form of three tangent semi-cylinders. The chapel of Agios Nikolaos is a one-room cemetery church, dating to the middle of the 17th century and survives a rare set of frescoes of the time. The proposed project includes works to fix and restore the monuments, which are preserved in a ruinous state, in order to be re-attributable to the inhabitants and numerous visitors of the island.
