The modernisation of network infrastructures at the public universities, TEIs and Research Centres of the country is necessary to improve the conditions for conducting the academic and research activities of students/students, professors, researchers and administrative staff. An important part of the infrastructures of these institutions is of old technology and unable to support the current demanding educational/research work of their members.Investment in the context of this project will provide high-speed Internet services. In particular, the modernisation of the Foundations’ network infrastructure includes: Procurement and installation of equipment for upgrading the Foundations’ network infrastructure and services to specific points, as well as upgrading the access and interconnection equipment with the national ESI Fund data network where required. Creation of multiple wireless access points in all areas of the Foundations Wireless networking of student homes and their interconnection with the academic fiber optic network of EDET S.A. Modernisation of the institutions’ telephone and communication services, ensuring savings and improved service to users. Improve the security services provided to protect against external attacks, protect user data and ensure the smooth operation of the Institutions’ systems. Creation of separate specialised infrastructures for the movement of research-scientific data, with specific speed and performance standards. Development of a dedicated software based on best international practices, for the flexible control and management of the Institutions’ Network and Informatics infrastructure, as well as the automated provision of services to end users. Strengthening/extending the electronic catalogues maintained by the Institutions for the management of the identity of members of the academic and research community and their authorisation for access to infrastructure and services. Create specialised teams to support institutions that do not have the right experience, in order to exploit the potential of new digital technologies. As a result of the project, members of the academic and research community will use the Foundation’s local network to connect to the national ESIET data network and, through it, national infrastructures and all research infrastructures worldwide, including data repositories, specialised scientific institutions, libraries, data centres, sensor networks, etc.The modernisation and upgrading of infrastructures will contribute to the familiarisation of hundreds of thousands of users with modern broadband services. Improving the speed and quality of data exchange, processing and storage and facilitating cooperation between research teams, as they gain access to the respective research and innovation infrastructures of the European Union, of other states and international organisations, are among the important expected achievements of the project. The planned advanced data and communications security services will also contribute to the upgrading of the daily activities of members of the academic and research community. Overall, the new advanced digital infrastructure of the Foundations is expected to have a major impact on the national scientific community, with significant leverage of the results of their research. The studies for the upgrading of infrastructure will be carried out with the active participation of experts and representatives of the Institutes’ IT, Operation and Network Management Centres, as well as international Research/Technology Networks, where necessary, thus ensuring the coverage of specialised and demanding needs by all categories of users.
