Actions for the management of biowaste and recyclable municipal waste in the Municipality of Lefkada

The project is implemented with 5 subprojects as follows:- Subproject 1 (Preparatory): Studies for the creation of Green Points installations in the Municipal Units of Lefkada, Greece and Apollonia of the Municipality of Lefkada. Includes: Static studies, E/M studies, Industrial Studies, Topographic Studies, Auction Issues and Environmental Impact Studies.- Subproject 2: It concerns the infrastructure and equipment of 3 Green Points in the Municipal Units of Lefkada, Greece and Apollonia of the Municipality of Lefkada. The Green Points will be demarcated and landscaped areas with appropriate building infrastructure (where required) and equipment, organised by the Municipality, so that residents deposit recyclable materials, separately collected, such as paper, glass, metals, plastics, edible oils or used objects and equipment (such as clothing, furniture, electrical and electronic equipment), in order to then be promoted for recycling or reuse. Citizens will enter the Green with their vehicles and by means of appropriate markings will be directed to the waste disposal sites. Depending on the stream of waste they wish to dispose of, they are initially directed to the parking lot in order to transfer any small recyclable waste to the collection site of small recyclable waste (in a building), while in case they wish to dispose of bulky waste, they are (through a circular) route to the collection site of bulky waste. Special waste (e.g. paints, inks, etc.) is collected in this area, which is considered hazardous municipal waste (hazardous waste from households) whose collection does not fall under the provisions of hazardous waste management. The reuse site collects objects, which, while rejected by their owners, can be reused for the same purpose for which they were designed. For example, books, clothes, furniture etc.In this area, citizens who visit the green spots will be able to obtain these items free of charge. The infrastructure projects at the Green Points include: Enclosure, entrance gate, perimeter tree planting, vehicle parking, administration and service office, electromechanical installations (water supply, sewerage, fire-fire protection, electricity supply, lightning protection), water tank and rainwater management projects.- Subproject 3: Supply of 1,000 buckets of home composting. Promotion of home composting with bucket distribution and creation of support and control mechanism.- Subproject 4: Awareness-raising and publicity actions. The Municipality will prepare an information and awareness-raising programme on recycling and home composting, which will include a variety of forms of communication with the public. The actions to be developed include Integration of information in the Municipality’s website, Form brochure for the new program, Information poster, Municipality Letters to citizens, Press Release and Press Interview, Office and Communication Line with citizens, Social Media Pages (facebook, twitter etc.), Update door-door for the personal contact of the Municipality’s cleaning service with citizens, Form for new equipment use instructions, Information Events for citizens, Sub-information etc. Supply of 3 mobile cutting plants for garden and park waste.
